Just under 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga is the perfect weekend getaway. Mountain views and peace of mind can all be found in this sleep city. We spent a beautiful Fall weekend here to celebrate my husband, Josh’s, 30th birthday with friends. Here’s all the details to plan your trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee:
Where to Stay: You can choose to stay in the city or up in the mountains in an Airbnb.
Personally, we booked the mountains because we brought our dogs and needed more space. We found a cabin with a big yard from Chattanooga Vacation Rentals. Think your basic wooden cabin with many bedrooms. Cabin décor isn’t my favorite, but you can’t beat the view of a sky full of stars.
What to do: There’s so much hiking nearby
Great trails are on Lookout Mountain and Cloudland Canyon. Taking time to be outside is my favorite activity for a weekend getaway from Atlanta. We selected Cloudland Canyon and did the 4.8 mi West Rim Loop Trail using the AllTrails app for navigation.
Parking is $5 per day at Cloudland Canyon State Park. It’s easy to find and you can pay at the gate when you come in. Pro tip: If you hike frequently in Georgia, grab the annual parking pass for $50 from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
The trail had surround views of the canyon and was dog-friendly. It was a great way to ring in a new chapter for Josh. Hiking really helps me step away from technology and gain some inner peace too.
What to Eat: Finally, my favorite part- the food!
I had some of the BEST food and drinks on this weekend getaway in Chattanooga. Let’s start with the breweries we visited:
- Oddstory Brewery has the highest yelp ratings in the city among countless breweries. I can tell why. The brewery is decorated with a wall of green leafy plants and lined with string lights outside. As someone who doesn’t love sours, Oddstory had great options for me and for my sour-loving friends. We all tried flights and tasted their creative craft beer.
- Hutton & Smith Brewing Co. Across the street from Oddstory, Hutton & Smith has hole in the wall vibes in the best ways. With a long bar, you can grab a stool at, and a list of a variety of beers to try, this is a great spot to visit. We especially loved the big comfortable leather couches to chat.
- On to the food spots, we went to the most interesting place for dinner, called Proof Bar and Incubator. I was considering moving to Chattanooga by the end of my meal. This is a unique restaurant because it hosts multiple chefs, serving different cuisines, with a rotating menu. Our friends had Asian food while we ordered a pizza.
- For brunch, we went to Tupelo Honey in the heart of the city. We sat on the outdoor patios to bring along our dogs and enjoy the beautiful cool weather. Tupelo Honey has great southern brunch options, including chicken and waffles. I had the avocado toast and I loved it! The restaurant is located in the main shopping area that surrounds a great park.
